DAWN (Dwellings & Advocacy for Women in Need) is a shared ministry of the Benedictine Sisters,Sisters of Mercy and the Sisters of St. Joseph. It was founded in 1995 to prevent women in recovery from addiction(s) and domestic violence from returning to former neighborhoods that would have negative influences to their recovery. Housing may be available up to two years to qualified women who are willing to be employed and/or attending school and working for their independence and self-sufficiency.Erie DAWN also currently has 3 furnished units through a private developer. These units identified as Martha s Place sites are available to women who are unemployed or underemployed and must achieve a sustainable income. Intensive case managment is provided them up to four months after which they may pursue other housing options.
